• Speaking for us[Speaking for us] 2005 (Sound installation, 50 x 50 x 207 cm) Une colonne “adossée” à un mur, mélange de Cadere et de Brancusi, constituée de haut-parleurs assemblés les uns aux autres. Elle mesure 1m87, la taille de l’artiste. Des voix sortent des 5 zones sonores qui la composent, acheminées par une multitude de minuscules fils. C’est une interrogation sur les discours qui nous constituent, consciemment ou non, sur la manière dont nous sommes parlés, individuellement, socialement, culturellement. Des voix qui s’enchaînent, se superposent, toutes habitées d’un désir envahissant d’un autre qui leur convienne. Et qui toutes ensemble dressent un “personnage” fragile, incertain, que seul parcourt en son entier un bruit de fond brouillé. A column that leans to the wall, a kind of mix of Brancusi and Cadere. It is made of speakers sticked one to the other, with very thin wires carrying the sound. It is 1.87 meter high, the artist’s size. In the music, voices are diffused by 5 zones of it. The piece questions the way we are spoken by cultural, social, intellectual speeches. The voices follow themselves, superimpose, all inhabited by an invading desire. They are speeches trying to take control of different characters, taken from movies, interviews… But the only sound that has the ability to traverse the whole structure is a kind of background noise, that tries to construct a very fragile character. |  |  |
